How does teamecho aggregate my results?

If you follow our recommendations and do not create teams that are too small, the problem should not arise. However, it can happen that not enough votes are collected. But where do these results then appear?

The teamecho levels

As you know, teamecho is very flexible and allows you to visualise your company structure in detail on different levels. Depending on how you want to depict your company, you start by entering your teams. You can later summarise these into departments and so on. The top evaluation unit is the company, i.e. all active teams combined. You will receive results for each level.

In the teamecho heatmap, the results of the different levels can be quickly recorded.

If there are not enough answers in a team (default anonymity limit = 5), the evaluation of this team will not be displayed.

However, the results do not automatically appear in a higher level. The following also applies to aggregation: anonymity must be maintained 🤓.

When are results aggregated?

In order for non-analysable (invalid) team results to be included in the departmental or company analysis, the following conditions must be met:

  1. The survey must have been completed.
  2. There must be at least one other team that cannot be analysed.
  3. The total number of responses from "invalid team evaluations" must be greater than the required number of responses for results to be visible. (Standard anonymity limit = 5)

Examples of possible aggregations

This department tree from "Happiness GmbH" should make it even easier to understand when the results of teams that cannot be analysed become visible.

First, let's take a look at the possible analyses for "Department 001".
In order to be able to see initial results at department level, only one team result is required. At this stage, the department result therefore "only" consists of the first team. As soon as there is a second team evaluation, this is also included in the department.

However, if teams within the department are (still) invalid, the following scenarios arise:

Team A is the only team with too few responses at the end of the survey. Team A is not included in the department evaluation of "Department 001". If each individual team evaluation were subtracted from the department evaluation, the team evaluation of team A could be calculated. Team B and C form the department results for "Department 001".

Team A and Team B are invalid after the end of the survey. Two scenarios can arise here.

  1. Assume that team A has only received 3 votes and team B only one vote. The standard anonymity limit is 5, which means that both teams only received a total of 4 votes, which is why both teams are not included in the department evaluation of department 001 in this case. Team result C is also the department result for "Department 001".
  2. If team A has 3 votes and team B also has 3, the two teams that are actually invalid are included in the department evaluation for "Department 001". In this example, teams A and B would have received a total of 6 votes and therefore more than the required 5 votes. Team C and the 6 votes cast make up the department result for "Department 001".

Once the survey has been completed, teams that may not yet be visible at department level can be aggregated to an evaluation level above. Let's think through the possible scenarios:

Team A is the only invalid team in the company. In this case, the team's results are not displayed even after the end of the evaluation.

Team A and Team D cannot be analysed after the end of the survey, but the total number of votes cast is over 5 and the results are therefore included in the company analysis. Assume team A has 3 votes and team D has received 2 votes. In this case, you would not see any results at either team or department level, but you would find the 5 votes at company level.

Comments are also aggregated and appear like team results in levels above, but you do not see the team assignment.

Comparison: Comment from invalid team vs. comment from valid team

So if you follow the teamecho recommendations and always create teams with at least 10 team members, all the feedback from your colleagues will reach you and if you have invalid teams, these votes are not automatically lost, but will most likely reappear in a level above 😀.
