From time to time, you may need to revise your teamecho structure to better align with your current needs. In this article, we’ve gathered key considerations and the available options to help you navigate the process.
Reorganizing the structure in teamecho can help bring more clarity and efficiency to your teams. By setting up teams and departments that match your workflow, you can use the feedback collected in teamecho to drive improvements and optimize team performance.

What happens to results during restructuring?
As you know, teamecho stores results directly within the team and never assigns them to individual users. This ensures the highest level of anonymity. When colleagues move from Team A to Team B, their ratings and feedback remain with Team A.
If teams are split or merged, the results do not transfer but remain within the respective teams. New teams will always have an empty dashboard.
Since this is a restructuring process, it makes sense to start fresh with the new teams. Previous results were based on the "old" team configurations and therefore do not provide meaningful insights for the newly formed teams.
Now that we’ve clarified this, let’s go through some examples of what you can do during restructuring and how to proceed. 😎
Restructuring: Splitting a Team
If you want to split a team into two or more teams, you can easily create new teams accordingly. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
-
First, remove all colleagues who will belong to a new team from the "existing team."
-
On the team page under "My Company," click "+ Create Team." Assign a name, add the team lead(s), and add team members.
-
Click "Save"—and you’re done! If you need more teams, follow the same process.
-
Once you’re finished creating new teams, don’t forget to include them in your existing survey plan. Here’s a guide explaining how to do that.
Note: You can also reform the existing team if there are new leaders or many new team members. This can be a useful option.
Restructuring: Merging Teams
Merging multiple teams into one large team may be necessary during restructuring, but it can also help maintain a sense of anonymity—especially when original teams become too small to generate results.
-
First, remove any teams that are no longer needed from your active survey plan.
-
On the team page under "My Company," find the teams that are no longer needed and click "Archive" via the three-dot menu. This ensures that these teams no longer appear in active plans. Results will still be accessible on the dashboard.
-
Once you’ve completed these steps, you can either create a new team that includes all members or add members from the "old" teams into an existing team.
⚠️ Remember: The new team must be included in the survey plan!
Restructuring: Modifying Departments
Results in teamecho are always stored at the team level. That’s why it’s crucial to ensure that teams are accurately structured. The more precisely the team structure reflects reality, the easier it will be to create additional evaluation levels. These can be adjusted or restructured at any time—even during an active survey.
To ensure that existing team results are carried over into the newly created or modified department, be sure to check the box for "Include existing team results in the newly added department."

And finally: Communication is key
It’s especially important to keep your colleagues informed about what exactly is planned, when the changes will take place, and why they are being made. Transparency is crucial to avoid misunderstandings. Clear and open communication ensures that everyone feels included and perceives the changes as meaningful and logical. 😊
